To the west is Kensington with the Royal Albert Hall and Kensington Palace and Gardens – the home of the late Princess Diana - on its northern boundary. Quality properties in quiet backwaters, a combination of apartments and houses, make this area very popular, as does the shopping in Kensington High Street.
South Kensington – from the Old Brompton Road west – is an equally desirable residential area with local shopping, vibrant cafes, classic ‘London pubs’, chic restaurants and bars stretching along the Fulham Road, which itself connects with Chelsea. Leading from Sloane Square is the iconic Kings Road, with its trendy shopping, bars and restaurants and many narrow side streets with an infinite choice of housing, always a popular place to live. Most apartments here are conversions from period houses and mansions dating back over 150 years. Peter Jones, the department store (part of the John Lewis Partnership) - on the corner of Sloane Square - is extremely popular and much appreciated by local residents.
