Westminster Area Guide

Westminster Area Guide

Westminster is traditionally associated with the Houses of Parliament, being the ‘seat’ of Her Majesty’s Government, and with some of London's most famous tourist attractions (Big Ben, the Tate Gallery, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye, to name just a few) but also offers a variety of residential property styles and locations for those wanting to live in the heart of the Capital.

Elegant Georgian and Queen Anne town houses can be found in St James – near to the Royal Park of the same name, and more recently-built apartments to the south around Vincent Square. Property developers have been busy converting or replacing old and unwanted government office building, and making luxury apartments available instead.
Some of these buildings have 24-hour concierge, roof gardens, fitness and leisure facilities, and underground parking. Typical of these is the old hospital conversions at St Johns and Westminster Green, Regency Apartments nearer the River Thames, and the recently completed New Palace Place developments in Marsham Street, Horseferry Road and Monck Street.

Westminster - not to be confused with the much larger local authority area known as the ‘City of Westminster’ which includes this area and much of the West End – offers very good value to investor landlords looking for a better return, with prices (starting from around £450,000 for a one-bedroom apartment) a lot lower than in the other residential areas mentioned here.

International corporate tenants are very happy to rent good quality apartments in Westminster, because local travel services and longer distance transport links are so good, and all the cultural and recreational attractions of London’s West End (theatres, galleries, concert halls, restaurants, bars and clubs), are within walking distance.
